abstract |
To provide a method for deaggregating nanodiamond without introducing unnecessary impurities into the nanodiamond material. In a liquid medium containing a solvent, the aggregated nanodiamond cluster and the deaggregating agent are combined in a state where the deaggregating agent is present in the solvent at a concentration exceeding the solubility limit, and the solvent, the deaggregating agent, and the nanodiamond are combined. Obtaining a mixture of clusters, and sonicating the mixture for a time sufficient to produce nanodiamond particles having a median particle size less than the median particle size of the agglomerated nanodiamond clusters, comprising: A deagglomeration method wherein the mass ratio of deagglomerating agent to nanodiamond particles is from about 10: 1 to about 100: 1.
