A humidification system for providing a humidified gas to a patient is provided. The circuit 123 of the humidification system 100 may include various conduits including an inhalation conduit 120, an exhalation conduit 122, a Y piece 124, a patient conduit 126, and / or a drying conduit 132. In use, the chamber 104 contains an amount of liquid. The heater base heats the heating plate 108, which then heats the liquid to a temperature such that at least some of the liquid becomes vapor, thereby humidifying the gas in the chamber 104. The gas is delivered to the patient via the inspiration conduit 120. Various features help control the system and ensure that the patient receives gas with the desired conditions. These features can also be used individually, in various combinations and sub-combinations, in both existing humidification systems and improved systems for respiratory air humidification, laparoscopy, and other purposes.
