abstract The present invention provides a method for easily producing an electrode catalyst excellent in catalyst performance such as activity-dominated current density. A method for producing an electrode catalyst having a dispersion preparation step and a supporting step. In the dispersion preparation step, (i) a solvent of an organic compound having a formamide group, (ii) a catalyst support powder of a metal oxide, (iii) a platinum compound, and (iv) a transition metal compound are mixed and dispersed. Make a liquid. In the supporting step, the dispersion is heated to support a platinum alloy of platinum and a transition metal on the surface of the catalyst carrier powder. The supporting step is performed in a state in which formic acid species are present in the dispersion. [Selection figure] None
