A method of partially oxidizing a carbon source to generate a gas containing carbon monoxide, and causing a microorganism to generate an organic substance from the gas in a fermenter, and in the partial oxidation of the carbon source, rather than air A method in which a step of generating an organic substance by supplying a gas having a high oxygen concentration is performed under a condition that utilization is 0.5 or more, preferably 0.7 or more.
