To provide a blood contact surface excellent in biocompatibility by modifying the surface of an article that comes into contact with blood, such as a stent or a catheter. A blood contacting surface comprising a polytetrafluoroethylene microstructure of nodes 22 and fibrils 20 in both the x-direction and the substantially vertical y-direction, wherein the nodes 22 and fibrils 20 are 5 micron. Select the 32 thickest nodes 22 in a representative 10,000 × SEM micrograph with an average distance between adjacent nodes 22 of less than a meter, and the average width of each maximum node is about 1.5 Less than a micrometer.
