titleOfInvention Ceramic for igniter insulator with low dielectric constant
abstract A ceramic insulator is provided for surrounding an electrode of an igniter, such as a colony igniter or a spark plug. The insulator is formed of a ceramic material comprising alumina in an amount of 28-38 wt%, silica in an amount of 57-67 wt%, calcium oxide in an amount of 3-7 wt%, based on the total weight of the ceramic material. The Ceramic insulators are typically formed by firing a mixture of kaolin, calcium carbonate, and silica, which acts as a flux during firing. The ceramic material has a dielectric constant of about 5.5 to 6.5, thus improving the electrical efficiency of the igniter. Ceramic materials can also withstand temperatures of 900-1000 ° C. and have excellent thermal shock resistance, making them suitable for use in internal combustion engines.
