The present invention treats or prevents various diseases and disorders, including novel hepcidin analogs, and iron-rich diseases such as hereditary hemochromatosis, iron-loaded anemia, and other conditions and disorders described herein. A related method for using such hepcidin analogs is provided. In certain embodiments, the hepcidin analog exhibits one or more hepcidin activities. In certain embodiments, the present invention relates to hepcidin peptide analogs comprising one or more peptide subunits that form a cyclized structure by intramolecular bonds, eg, intramolecular disulfide bonds. In certain embodiments, the cyclized structure has increased potency and selectivity compared to a non-cyclized hepcidin peptide and analogs thereof. |
