titleOfInvention | System and method for measuring fetal brain oxygenation |
abstract | A photoacoustic diagnostic system, apparatus, and method are described. The system may include a console unit and a handheld probe. The console unit includes a controller, a processor, a photodiode array, an acoustic processing subsystem, and a cooling subsystem. The probe directs the optical signal from the photodiode array to the patient's tissue. Each optical signal has a different wavelength that is selected based on the physiological parameter of interest. The probe further includes an acoustic transducer that receives an acoustic signal generated in response to the directed optical signal. The probe may include a finger gripping working end that can be directed to the fetal skull in the uterus during labor. The probe can accurately determine fetal blood oxygenation to determine if a cesarean section is needed. [Selection] Figure 3 |
