Compositions for generating antibacterial activity that are storage stable are described. The composition includes an enzyme capable of converting a substrate to release hydrogen peroxide and an unpurified natural substance such as honey containing a substrate for the enzyme. In certain embodiments, the enzyme is a purified enzyme. In other embodiments, the substrate does not have catalase activity, and the enzyme may be present in unpurified natural material, any of those capable of converting the substrate to release hydrogen peroxide. Additive to enzyme activity. The storage stable composition does not contain enough free water for the enzyme to convert the substrate. Described are microbial infection treatments and wound healing applications of the above compositions, and methods for making the above compositions. |
