The dentifrice composition comprises a toothpaste base having a pH of from about 7 to about 10 and a calcium ion source and a fluoride ion source, the calsium ion source is unencapsulated, and the fluoride ion source is a toothpaste base. Encapsulated or coated in an impermeable coating. When mechanically agitated by a toothbrush on the oral surface, the impermeable coating is broken down to release fluoride ions. In a second embodiment, the dentifrice composition comprises an aqueous toothpaste group having a pH of about 7 to about 10 with an unencapsulated calcium ion source and a fluoride ion source having a pH of less than 3-7. And a fluoride ion source is encapsulated in a first (or inner) insoluble coating adapted to decompose and release fluoride ions in the presence of a toothpaste base. . The first coating is resistant to degradation in the presence of a toothpaste base and is adapted to mechanically degrade to expose the first (or inner) coating. Wrapped in an osmotic coating, it decomposes and releases fluoride ions in response to application of the dentifrice composition to the oral surface. [Selection figure] None |
