abstract Disclosed is a method and apparatus for energy efficient separation of the effluent from a TOL / A9 + transalkylation reactor. The apparatus comprises a reboiling pre-fractionation column; and (1) an overhead stream containing unreacted toluene; (2) a stream containing unreacted C 9+ aromatics (a portion of this stream is recycled to the reactor) And (3) a side stream comprising C 8 aromatics (which can be sent to a crystallization or selective adsorption paraxylene separation unit to recover the paraxylene product); A sidestream tower to be generated.
