A method for increasing blood-brain barrier permeability of selected brain tissue in a subject in need thereof comprises: (a) a recombinant nucleic acid comprising a nucleic acid encoding a barrier open protein or peptide operably linked to a heat-inducible promoter Administering parenteral stem cells that migrate to brain tissue to a subject, and then (b) an amount of barrier-opening protein or peptide effective to increase blood brain barrier permeability in the selected brain tissue This is performed by selectively warming the selected brain tissue to an extent sufficient to induce expression. Also described are nucleic acids, vectors, stem cells, and compositions useful in the practice of such methods. |
