A novel absorbent polymer blend is disclosed. The blend has a first absorbent polymer type that is a polylactide polymer or a copolymer of lactide and glycolide and a second absorbent polymer type that is poly (p-dioxanone), the first absorbent polymer. The type, or the second absorbent polymer type, or the first absorbent polymer type and the second absorbent polymer type further comprise a first polymer component and a second polymer component. The first polymer component has a higher weight average molecular weight than the second polymer component, and at least one of the components is at least partially end-capped with a carboxylic acid group. The novel polymer blends are useful for producing dimensional-stable medical devices with in vivo designed degradation and fracture strength retention. Also disclosed are novel absorbent medical devices made from these novel polymer blends, as well as novel manufacturing methods. |
