abstract The present invention provides a three-dimensional porous polysaccharide matrix capable of inducing tissue calcification in bone and non-bone sites in the absence of stem cells or growth factors. A method for preparing a porous polysaccharide scaffold comprising the following steps. i) preparing an alkaline aqueous solution comprising an amount of at least one polysaccharide, an amount of cross-linking agent, and an amount of porogen; ii) measuring the amount of polysaccharide at a temperature of about 4 ° C to about 80 ° C. Transforming the solution into a hydrogel by allowing sufficient time to crosslink, iii) soaking the hydrogel in a solvent, preferably an aqueous solution, and iv) the porous polysaccharide scaffold obtained in step iii). Washing, the alkaline aqueous solution of step i) further comprises hydroxyapatite, preferably nanohydroxyapatite [selection figure] None
