An anti-factor D antibody useful for the treatment of a disorder mediated by complement is provided. The present invention provides an antibody comprising the heavy and light chain variable domain sequences of murine antibody 166-32 that can inhibit the biological activity associated with Factor D. In another embodiment, the present invention provides compositions comprising the antibodies, cell lines and vectors having the antibody sequences, and methods for making and using the antibodies and compositions. The present invention also provides the use of the above-described antibody for preparing a drug or composition for treating disorders associated with excessive or uncontrolled complement activation.
