abstract An object of the present invention is to remove fixing solution on the outer peripheral surface of a nozzle that sprays fixing solution. A fixing device 7 includes a fixing head 71 having a nozzle N for spraying a fixing liquid L toward a developer image on a recording sheet, a fixing liquid L in the nozzle N, and a position away from the nozzle N. A potential difference forming unit (first electrode 74, second electrode 72) for forming a potential difference with the conveyed recording sheet, a pressure applying unit (pressurizing device 75) for applying pressure to the fixing liquid L, and a potential difference A control unit 100 that controls the voltage applied to the forming unit and the pressure applied to the fixing liquid L is provided. The control unit 100 sets the pressure applied to the fixing liquid L as a first pressure, and applies a voltage to the potential difference forming unit, thereby performing a fixing spray process for spraying the fixing liquid L from the nozzle N toward the recording sheet, and a fixing spray. When the process is not executed, a droplet removal process is performed in which a voltage is applied to the potential difference forming unit while the pressure is set to a second pressure smaller than the first pressure.
