abstract The present invention provides a high-purity 1,2,3,5,6-pentathiepan for an optical material from which a highly transparent cured product can be obtained and a purification method thereof. A 1,2,3,5,6-pentathiepan containing insoluble matter is purified to a high purity by removing the insoluble matter using a specific solvent, and 1,2,3,5 after purification. 1,2,3,5,6-pentathiepan for optical materials, wherein the turbidity of a solution of 2 g of 6,6-pentathiepan dissolved in 30 g of chloroform is 500 ppm or less. A method for producing 1,2,3,5,6-pentatiepan having Steps A to C. Step A: Aromatic hydrocarbons or halogenated hydrocarbons are added to the composition containing 1,2,3,5,6-pentathiepan before purification containing insoluble matter, and 1,2,3,5, Step of dissolving 6-pentathiepan, step B: step of filtering insoluble matter, step C: step of recrystallizing dissolved 1,2,3,5,6-pentathiepan [selection figure] None
