abstract | The present invention provides a technique for measuring heavy element-containing materials capable of specifying the composition of heavy element-containing materials such as nuclear fuel and nuclear fuel debris. A measuring apparatus includes a first receiving unit that receives a muon incident locus from a first locus detector provided outside a storage container that holds a heavy element-containing material, and a first locus detector. A second accepting unit 15 that accepts an exit locus from a second locus detector 13 that is provided opposite to the light source, and a scattering angle calculation unit 17 that calculates a muon scattering angle and a scattering position based on a muon incident locus and an exit locus. And a scattering distribution measuring unit 18 that collects scattering angles whose scattering positions belong to the measurement region 22 and measures a count distribution of the scattering angles in the measurement region 22, and an expected count distribution of the scattering angles expected in the measurement region 22.
