A method for producing a polyarylene sulfide resin having crystallinity and high heat resistance is provided. A polyarylene sulfide resin having a main chain containing a structural unit represented by the following general formula (1.1) is disclosed. In the infrared absorption spectrum of the polyarylene sulfide resin, an absorption peak derived from a sulfonyl group is not observed.
