PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for biosynthetic production of a bifunctional or trifunctional C7 alkane that is useful as an intermediate in the production of nylon-7, nylon-7, x, nylon-x, 7 and polyester. A compound selected from 2,6 diaminopimelate (2,6 DAP) and α-aminopimelate (AAP) is converted from 2,6 DAP to 6-amino-2-heptenedioic acid (6A2HA).
