titleOfInvention A wound battery cell with a notch for accommodating an electrode connection
abstract A battery cell including a notch for receiving a connection to an electrode tab extending therefrom is provided. Embodiments disclosed herein relate to a jelly roll battery design in which alternating anode and cathode layers coated with intervening separator layers are wound into a jelly roll. The alternating anode and cathode layers are coated with an anode active coating and a cathode active coating, respectively. The first common notch and the second common notch are formed along at least one side of the jelly roll. A common cathode tab is coupled to the cathode tab within the first common notch, and a common anode tab is coupled to the anode tab within the second common notch. The jelly roll battery includes a pouch that surrounds the jelly roll. A common anode and cathode tab extend through the pouch to provide cathode and anode terminals for the battery cell.
