An object of the present invention is to provide a composition and method for use in spinal fusion. A method for promoting bone fusion in spinal fusion, comprising administering to a desired spinal fixation site a composition comprising a solution comprising a biocompatible matrix and platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF). The solution is incorporated into the biocompatible matrix, the biocompatible matrix comprises a bone scaffolding material, and the bone scaffolding material comprises porous calcium phosphate or an allograft.
