titleOfInvention | Synthesis of block copolymers based on chlorotrifluoroethylene by iodine transfer polymerization |
abstract | A method of synthesizing a CTFE-based block copolymer by iodine transfer polymerization is disclosed. In an exemplary embodiment, the method comprises fluoromonomer “M” in the presence of a radical initiator of the formula: X—Y or Y—X—Y, where X is a C 1 -C 3 carbonization. Hydrogen, C 1 -C 6 hydrofluorocarbon, C 1 -C 6 hydrochlorofluorocarbon, or C 1 -C 6 fluorocarbon, Y represents iodine or bromine) and is reacted with a chain transfer agent of formula: Forming a macroinitiator of poly (M) -Y or Y-poly (M) -X-poly (M) -Y, where poly (M) represents a polymer of the fluoromonomer. The method comprises reacting a macroinitiator with chlorotrifluoroethylene (CTFE) in the presence of a radical initiator to produce the formula: X-poly (M) -block-PCTFE or PCTFE-block-poly (M)- The method further includes forming a diblock or triblock CTFE-based block copolymer of X-poly (M) -block-PCTFE.
