titleOfInvention | Isolation method for water-insoluble components of biomass and products obtained therefrom |
abstract | The method includes pretreating the biomass with a first basic solution such as sodium hydroxide and mechanically modifying the fibers to obtain fluidized biomass. The fluidized biomass is then exposed to radio frequency pulses and shear without denaturing individual components of the biomass. Next, a compressive force is applied to the biomass to separate the first liquid fraction from the first fractionated biomass. The first fractionated biomass can then be re-exposed to the same high frequency pulses and shear forces as before, especially if hemicellulose and / or sugar is still present in the first fractionated biomass. A compressive force is used to separate the second liquid fraction from the second fractionated biomass. The second fractionated biomass has a pH of 8-12 and is oxidized, such as with hydrogen peroxide. Next, a compressive force is applied to the second fractionated biomass to separate one or more water-insoluble components of the biomass in a water-soluble form. |
