Methods for preparing conjugated polymers include 3,4-dioxythiophene, 3,4-dioxyfuran, or 3 in the presence of a Pd or Ni-containing catalyst, an aprotic solvent, a carboxylic acid at a temperature above 120 ° C. , 4-dioxypyrrole, and optionally DHAP polymerization of at least one second conjugated monomer. At least one of the monomers is substituted with a hydrogen reactive functional group and at least one of the monomers is substituted with CI, Br, and / or I. The polymerization can be performed at a temperature of 140 ° C. or higher, and the DHAP polymerization can be performed without a phosphine ligand or a phase transfer agent. The resulting polymer can exhibit a degree of dispersion of less than 2 and can have a degree of polymerization of greater than 10. |
