abstract | In the method of forming nanopores, two opposing surfaces of the membrane are exposed to an electrically conductive liquid environment. A nanopore nucleation voltage pulse having a first nucleation pulse amplitude and duration is applied between the two membrane surfaces through the liquid environment. After applying the nanopore nucleation voltage pulse, the electrical conductivity of the membrane is measured and compared to a first electrical conductivity specified in advance. Then, if the measured electrical conductivity is less than or equal to the predesignated first electrical conductivity, at least one additional nanopore nucleation voltage pulse is applied between the two membrane surfaces through the liquid environment. If the measured electrical conductivity is greater than the predesignated first electrical conductivity and less than or equal to the predesignated second electrical conductivity, at least one nanopore diameter adjustment having an adjusted pulse voltage amplitude and duration A voltage pulse is applied between the two membrane surfaces through the liquid environment.
