Among translated coding sequences from the cow rumen metagenomic database, polypeptides were identified that were found to produce xylose isomerase activity in yeast cells. This xylose isomerase activity can complete the xylose utilization pathway, so that the yeast can use xylose such as xylose in the biomass hydrolyzate during fermentation. |
