A method of forming an article from a glass sheet (20) having a glass sheet binding surface (24) and a glass carrier (10) having a carrier binding surface (14). At least one of the glass sheet and the carrier binding surface is coated with a surface modified layer (30), and then the glass sheet is connected to the carrier through the surface modified layer. While connected, a portion of the surface modifying layer is removed from the periphery of the glass sheet and carrier, exposing a portion of the binding surface (19, 29) in each of the glass sheet and carrier. The glass sheet and carrier are then heated at a temperature of 400 ° C. or higher to bond the periphery (26) of the glass sheet with the periphery (16) of the carrier. |
