titleOfInvention | Can pretreatment method for improving coating film adhesion |
abstract | The present invention relates to the use of an acidic aqueous composition for pretreatment of a can, wherein an inorganic-organic chemical conversion coating layer is formed in the course of the pretreatment, and the chemical conversion coating layer itself is formed. It provides an excellent adhesive substrate for waxes that improve the sliding behavior of can sheet metal and for subsequent coatings. The present invention first contacts a can cylinder with an acidic aqueous composition containing a water-soluble inorganic compound of the elements Zr, Ti, Si, Hf or Ce and a water-soluble polymer containing carboxyl or hydroxyl groups, and then A wet chemical pretreatment method comprising contacting with an aqueous dispersion of wax. In this way, the slip and molding properties required for the other method steps of the can production process are imparted to the can cylinder and additionally provide an excellent adhesive substrate for the coating. The invention further relates to an acidic aqueous composition that is particularly suitable for pretreatment methods and contains a water-soluble polymer selected from the condensates of glycoluril and aldehydes. The invention further relates to a method of manufacturing a can cylinder, said method comprising a pretreatment according to the invention. |
