abstract |
A non-halogen monomer that can be polymerized to a flame retardant polymer and a method for producing the monomer and polymer are provided. Provided are non-halogen monomers that can be polymerized into flame retardant polymers and methods for producing the monomers and polymers. In a simplest embodiment, a monomer composition is provided that may comprise a) a group derived from one of (meth) acrylic acid, (meth) acrylamide or vinylbenzene, b) a polyphosphate moiety and c) an amine species. Is done. In the monomer composition, the ethylenically unsaturated monomer a) is covalently bonded to the part b) directly or via a linking group to form a precursor monomer unit. The amine species of c) form a complex with the precursor monomer unit. The polymer can be a homopolymer of the monomer composition or a copolymer of the monomer composition having varying a), b) and c). In one embodiment, the polymer may further comprise an ethylenically unsaturated monomer that is not covalently bonded to the polyphosphate moiety. [Selection figure] None |
