abstract A worm speed reducer for an electric power steering equipped with a mechanism for preventing an increase in backlash caused by a change in the dimensional shape of a resin worm wheel due to a change in ambient temperature and a displacement of the worm accompanying wear of a meshing portion. A shaft end side bearing 5 which supports one end of a worm 2 and is movable toward the worm wheel 3 in a direction perpendicular to the axis, and a housing in a space 11 on the worm wheel 3 side in the radial direction of the shaft end side bearing 5. 1 and a belt holding portion 9 provided integrally with the outer peripheral ring 6 of the shaft end side bearing 5 and an annular elastic belt 10 hung on the belt holding portion 9 in a state of extending in the length direction. The annular elastic belt 10 pressurizes the worm 2 against the worm wheel 3 with a predetermined force by a contracting force. [Selection] Figure 1
