abstract |
A heat pipe intercooler for a turbomachine is provided. A turbomachine includes a compressor including an intake section and a blowout section. The compressor compresses the air received in the intake section and forms a compressed air flow that exits to the blow-out section. The combustor 120 is operably connected to the compressor, and the combustor receives a stream of compressed air. Turbine 130 is operably connected to the combustor. The turbine receives a combustion gas stream from a combustor. The intercooler 220 is operably connected to the compressor, and at least a portion of the intercooler is disposed in the interstage gap between the moving blades and the stationary blades of the compressor. The intercooler has a plurality of heat pipes 222 that extend into the gaps between the stages. The plurality of heat pipes are operatively connected to one or more manifolds 224. The plurality of heat pipes and the one or more manifolds are configured to transfer heat from the compressed air stream to the plurality of heat exchangers. [Selection] Figure 2 |
