abstract Disclosed is a mutant urate oxidase and use thereof. The present invention relates to a genetically modified protein having urate-degrading activity. More specifically, the present invention includes a protein containing a cleaved urate oxidase, a method for producing the same, and a PEGylated protein containing the cleaved urate oxidase. In one embodiment, the contemplated proteins of the invention are truncated and have mutated amino acids relative to the native uricase protein. In certain embodiments, the mutation occurs at amino acids 7, 46, 291 and 301 or in the surrounding region. Conservative mutations present at any position of the peptide are also considered as part of the present invention. [Selection] Figure 1
