abstract | To provide a method for producing high-purity acetic acid by a carbonylation reaction carried out while maintaining a low ethyl iodide content in a reaction medium. In a reactor, at least one member selected from methanol, dimethyl ether, and methyl acetate is used with carbon monoxide in the presence of water, a metal catalyst, methyl iodide, and a halide salt. Continuously carbonylating to form a reaction medium, wherein the carbonylation is performed while maintaining the ethyl iodide concentration in the reaction medium at 750 wppm or less, and separating the acetic acid product from the reaction medium. A method for synthesizing acetic acid, wherein the acetic acid product contains propionic acid in an amount of 250 wppm or less. [Selection] Figure 2 |
