titleOfInvention | Novel process and catalyst system for improving dewaxing catalyst stability and lubricant yield |
abstract | The present invention provides a process for dewaxing a waxy hydrocarbon feedstock to form a lubricating oil. The present invention is also directed to a catalyst system that includes a hydroprocessing catalyst upstream of a dewaxing catalyst used to dewax a waxy hydrocarbon feedstock to form a lubricating oil. In particular, the present invention is directed to processes and catalyst systems designed to maintain lubricating oil product yields. Specifically, the yield of lubricating oil does not decrease by more than 2% at the target pour point over the dewaxing temperature range. The hydroprocessing catalyst helps prevent dewaxing catalyst degradation and maintains the lube oil product yield at the target pour point over a wide temperature range. The hydrotreating catalyst comprises platinum, palladium, or a combination thereof on a low acidity inorganic oxide support whose acidity is assessed by a decalin conversion of less than 10% at 700 ° F.
