titleOfInvention | Optical modulator and image display device |
abstract | An optical modulator having high light utilization efficiency and capable of modulating at a plurality of different wavelengths, and an image display device including the optical modulator and capable of displaying a high-quality image. An optical modulator includes an optical waveguide made of a material having an electro-optic effect, a wavelength selecting unit provided in the optical waveguide and selecting a wavelength of light to be guided, and an optical waveguide. And an optical modulation unit 304 that modulates the intensity of light having a wavelength selected by the wavelength selection unit 303. The wavelength selection unit 303 includes a widened core part in which the core part 3021 of the optical waveguide 302 is widened, and an electrode for applying a voltage to the widened core part, and with respect to light incident on the widened core part. By exciting multimode interference, the wavelength of light guided through the optical waveguide 302 can be selected. In addition, the light modulation unit 304 is configured to be able to modulate the intensity of light based on the electro-optic effect. [Selection] Figure 6 |
