abstract | An object of the present invention is to provide an inexpensive liquid crystal aligning agent and liquid crystal composition capable of aligning liquid crystal molecules in a direction perpendicular to a substrate, and a liquid crystal display device using them. The liquid crystal aligning agent of the present invention is characterized by comprising a random copolymer containing structural units derived from a liquid crystalline monomer. In addition, the liquid crystal composition of the present invention includes a liquid crystal component and the liquid crystal aligning agent. Furthermore, the liquid crystal display device of the present invention is a liquid crystal display device in which a liquid crystal layer is sandwiched between a pair of substrates, wherein the liquid crystal layer is the liquid crystal composition.
