abstract The present invention provides a cardiomyocyte culture medium having dialyzed serum. Methods and compositions for cardiomyocyte maintenance are provided. For example, according to one aspect, a method is provided for culturing cardiomyocytes in a medium substantially free of serum or containing dialyzed serum in order to maintain the long-term purity of the cardiomyocytes. According to a further aspect, a method for modulating cardiomyocytes is provided. Aspects of the present invention overcome a major technical deficiency by providing a method for maintaining the purity of cardiomyocyte populations, particularly in terms of homogeneity. According to an aspect, there is provided a method for maintaining the purity of a purified cardiomyocyte population comprising culturing the purified cardiomyocyte population in the medium used below, wherein the population is Culture for at least 1 week to 7 months and maintain cardiomyocyte purity.
