abstract | To provide a gas concentration detection device capable of acquiring the concentration of sulfur oxide contained in exhaust gas as a test gas as accurately as possible by using a limiting current type gas sensor. In a limiting current type gas sensor including an electrochemical cell having an oxygen pumping action, one of a pair of electrodes (cathode) included in the electrochemical cell is formed of a material capable of decomposing sulfur oxide (SOx). A voltage equal to or higher than a voltage at which decomposition of water (H 2 O) starts is applied between the pair of electrodes to decompose water contained in the test gas. At this time, a detection value corresponding to the current flowing between the pair of electrodes is detected. Based on this detected value, the concentration of sulfur oxide in the test gas is obtained with high accuracy. By further decomposing nitrogen oxide (NOx) contained in the test gas by providing a further electrochemical cell upstream of the electrochemical cell, the detection accuracy of the concentration of sulfur oxide is further increased.
