An image pickup apparatus includes an image pickup element 12, an analog-digital (AD) converter 13, and a pixel signal reading device 16 arranged in a two-dimensional matrix in a first direction and a second direction. The image sensor 12 that outputs the pixel signal to the AD converter 13 is selected spatially and randomly by the pixel signal reading device 16, and the output of the pixel signal of the image sensor 12 from the AD converter 13 is randomly selected.
