An imaging apparatus having a configuration and structure capable of sufficiently simplifying the circuit configuration of the entire imaging apparatus including the imaging element and sufficiently reducing power consumption of the entire imaging apparatus including the imaging element. An image pickup apparatus includes an image pickup element 12, an analog-digital (AD) converter 13, and a pixel signal reading device 16 arranged in a two-dimensional matrix in a first direction and a second direction.
