A novel method and composition for the diagnosis and treatment of solid cancer and a method for identifying an inhibitor of tumor formation are provided. A method of diagnosing whether a subject has or is at risk of developing a solid cancer comprising measuring the level of at least one miR gene product in a test sample from the subject. And a method comprising administering to a subject an effective amount of at least one isolated miR gene product or isolated variant or biologically active fragment thereof, and at least one isolated miR. A pharmaceutical composition for treating solid cancer comprising a gene product, or an isolated variant or biologically active fragment thereof, and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. A method of identifying a tumorigenesis inhibitor comprising: providing a test agent to a cell and measuring the level of at least one miR gene product associated with a reduced expression level in solid cancer.
