abstract | It is an object of the present invention to provide a specific polyvinyl alcohol excellent in transparency and viscosity stability when made into an aqueous solution, and a dispersion for emulsion polymerization containing the same and excellent in emulsion polymerization stability. Furthermore, it aims at providing the aqueous | water-based emulsion and adhesive agent which can make the outstanding fluidity | liquidity and the water resistance of a film which contain the said polyvinyl alcohol compatible. The saponification degree is 80 to 99.5 mol%, the viscosity average polymerization degree is 200 to 5000, and JIS K 0124 (measured by reverse phase distribution gradient high performance liquid chromatography with water-acetone eluent).
