abstract The present invention provides a method for separating and recovering rare earth elements as a valuable material that is an industrial raw material and has commercial value easily and inexpensively without going through complicated steps. Further, it includes a technique for separating rare earth elements from each other, in particular, a technique capable of separating and recovering heavy rare earth elements from light rare earth elements. SOLUTION: Sodium carbonate whose concentration is controlled is added to a sample containing plural kinds of rare earth elements to form double salts having different solubilities composed of the carbonate and sodium carbonate by the plural kinds of rare earth elements. The rare earth element is separated and recovered by the step of separating the rare earth element from each other with the solubility difference of the double salt. [Selection figure] None
