abstract An object of the present invention is to provide an alternative configuration of a mask system that improves the efficacy of treatment and patient compliance. A mask system includes a frame (20) adapted to attach headgear, a sealing mechanism (40) releasably connectable to the frame, and a sealing mechanism suitable for breathing to a patient. And an elbow (70) adapted to be connected to an air delivery tube for delivering the gas. The sealing mechanism is adapted to define a respiratory cavity and to form a seal with the patient's face.
