abstract The present invention provides a method for preparing 3-aminomethyl-3,5,5-trimethylcyclohexylamine. The method comprises: a) reacting 3-cyano-3,5,5-trimethylcyclohexanone with excess primary amine and removing the water produced from the reaction to substantially convert IPN to an imine compound. B) in the presence of an ammonia decomposition catalyst, the product of step a) is mixed with liquid ammonia to perform an ammonia decomposition reaction of the imine compound to give 3-cyano-3,5,5-trimethyl. Producing cyclohexylimine and the above primary amine; and c) hydrogenating 3-cyano-3,5,5-trimethylcyclohexylimine obtained in step b) in the presence of hydrogen and a hydrogenation catalyst. To obtain 3-aminomethyl-3,5,5-trimethylcyclohexylamine.
