titleOfInvention Optical monitoring of battery health
abstract Light passes through or through the battery cell separator, is scattered within the battery cell, and is received by one or more light receivers. Normally, light transmitted through the separator is scattered, absorbed, wavelength changed, or otherwise distorted by an impending obstacle near or within the separator. The change in light due to the impending failure is measured by the detector and the signal from the detector is processed to recognize the impending failure so that an alarm can be generated to indicate the impending failure.
