Neuroprotective CB2 receptor agonist |
abstract |
Described are methods of treating or preventing neuroinflammatory and / or neurodegenerative diseases in a subject by administering a pharmaceutically effective amount of a CB 2 receptor agonist. The CB 2 receptor agonist may be a compound of formula I or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, wherein R 1 and R 2 are as defined herein. Administration of a CB 2 receptor agonist activates the CB 2 receptor in microglia and can restore synaptic plasticity, cognition, and memory in subjects with elevated amyloid-β peptide concentration in the brain. |
