Improved method of making porous plugs in ceramic honeycomb filters |
abstract |
A ceramic plug forming paste useful for making a plug having a through hole (partial plug) in a ceramic honeycomb filter, the plug forming paste comprising a ceramic particulate material and a flowable carrier, wherein the ceramic particulate material is The plug-forming paste has sufficient fluidity, so that the flowable carrier is present in a sufficient amount, so that the plug-forming paste has a sufficient fluidity. The plug forming paste is inserted into the fluid ceramic honeycomb passage and is maintained in the passage without any other support other than the walls of the honeycomb defining the passage. Such a paste can be easily injected by the same method as a normal paste. Such pastes and methods advantageously provide plugs with through-holes, resulting in a honeycomb filter that maintains effective filtration of particulate matter while having a low pressure drop.
