abstract |
A method for improving the antibacterial properties of a biological implant. In some embodiments, the method may include providing a biomedical implant material block. The biomedical implant material block may include a silicon nitride ceramic material. In order to improve the antibacterial properties of the biomedical implant material block, the chemical properties of the surface of the biomedical implant material block may be changed. In some embodiments, the surface chemistry is such that the bio-implant block is baked in a nitrogen-rich environment or otherwise, a transition oxidation of at least a portion of the bio-implant block. It may be varied by increasing the nitrogen content in the material layer. In order to improve the antibacterial property of the implant, the surface of the living body implant material block may be roughened in addition to or instead of the above. |
