titleOfInvention Antibacterial introducer and needle
abstract A device is provided for passing a conduit through a vein or artery under the patient's skin during insertion of a component such as a PICC line. The hollow needle, dilator, and sheath surfaces that are included in the kit and that would contact the patient's skin during the procedure comprise an antimicrobial surface area formed on the surface. The surface area is positioned to prevent bacteria and other pathogens from being present at the contact surface, thereby reaching the tissue under the patient's skin.
